My name is Jalilah and I am a NYC Pre-k Art Teacher. I have over 13 years of early childhood experience. In 2016 I transitioned from classroom teacher to art teacher and I haven't looked back since! My art curriculum is a blend of my core knowledge of best early childhood practices and carefully crafted art experiences.
My art lessons incorporate movement, poems, storybooks, artist studies and art history. I believe that art is the missing puzzle piece in all children's lives.
3 Facts About Me:
I love desserts! - cakes and cookies please! I'm obsessed with butterflies.
My favorite color is pink.
Before there were ebooks and online classes, there was Jalilah’s Sip and Paint and private one on one art lessons. I always dreamed of being an entrepreneur but I was always a bit unsure of how to incorporate my love for art, education, writing, and teaching all together. In 2018, an old acquaintance suggested that I start a sip and paint business. With this business, I would travel to a hosting family’s home and lead children in a fun step by step session paint session. I provided all art materials and furniture.
Admittedly, I pursued this venture out of a desire to be an entrepreneur and my willingness to help a friend. I was excited and happy to have a business venture. This was sure to be a great journey. Right? A year later, in August 2019, I booked my second sip and paint client.
You read correctly. ONE. YEAR. LATER. Not to mention I was offering private one on one children art lessons and those too proved to be a flop. It was clear that those two businesses were not what people needed from me. Yes, the feeling of rejection stung (a lot), but I continued to share my art studio moments online.
And then in March 2020, NYC was placed on lockdown. The world as we knew it would literally never be the same. COVID-19 made it’s infamous entry into our lives and proceeded to shake us to the core.
I wanted to help families feel at ease. I wanted families to feel the easeful and soothing power of art like I knew it. It was then that my first real ebook was born: “Three Ways to Reduce Stress With Art”. The reviews and feedback for that ebook was amazing, and I am filled with so much gratitude every time I receive a message about how it has helped others.
Slowly but surely, it became more and more clear to me- digital products were my best bet at helping families get creative and bond.
I discovered that I was not a train wreck of an entrepreneur, it’s that there wasn’t a need for what I was offering. There is a need, now more than ever, for families to connect, bond and relax through art. I'm honored you chose me to help you do so!
